These terms explain different connector code types and cable protection options, helping you choose the right cordset for your application.
M12 A-Code: Common for sensors and actuators; carries DC power or signals for DeviceNet®, IO-Link®, and other standard control networks
M12 D-Code: Supports 100 Mbps Ethernet communication; used with EtherNet/IP, PROFINET®, EtherCAT®, and Modbus® TCP for reliable data transfer
M12 K-Code: Designed for high-voltage AC power connections (630 V AC, 16A) in motors, drives, and machine power distribution systems
M12 L-Code: Provides up to 16 amps DC power for IO-Link masters, EtherCAT P, and distributed I/O and field power applications
M12 X-Code: Supports high-speed 10 gigabit Ethernet for EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, and other industrial data networks
TPU: A jacket material that works best for harsh environments, durable polyurethane offers excellent abrasion resistance and chemical resistance
PVC: A jacket material that is ideal for general-purpose industrial applications, cost-effective polyvinyl chloride provides good resistance to oils and abrasion
Shielding: A conductive layer within the cable that protects signal integrity by reducing electrical noise and electromagnetic interference in data and power transmission that may use foil, braid, or both, often with a drain wire for termination; depending on the application, the shield can be bonded to the connector housing, connected to a ground pin, or left floating to match system grounding requirements
Use this table to compare cable jacket types and key characteristics. Choose PVC for general purpose use when environmental demands are minimal.

Maintaining the proper bend radius helps protect cables from damage and ensures reliable performance over time. In fixed installations, avoid sharp bends by allowing the cordset to form a smooth curve or using right-angle connectors where space is limited.
Bend radius for fixed applications
Non-shielded cordset: 5x cable diameter
Shielded cordset: 10x cable diameter
High-flex cordsets are designed for applications with continuous motion, such as robotic arms, c-tracks, and automated machinery. Banner’s high-flex cordsets are backed by a 20-million flex cycle warranty for long-lasting performance and reliability.
Minimum Bend Radius for Moving Applications
Non-shielded cordset: 10x cable diameter
Shielded cordset: 15x cable diameter
When using cable ties, secure them just tightly enough to hold cables in place without compressing or damaging the jacket. Even, moderate tension prevents strain on the conductors and maintains flexibility over time.
Proper cable bundling keeps cordsets organized, protected, and easy to service. Group cables that move together and secure them with evenly spaced ties, allowing enough space for natural flexing. Avoid tight or uneven bundles, which can cause abrasion, stress, and premature cable wear.
Mounting holes on splitters, tees, and junction blocks make installation quick and secure. Mount on a flat surface and tighten fasteners just enough to hold components firmly in place.
Single-ended cordsets have a QD connector on one end and flying leads on the other. Different colors and lengths are available to fit various application settings.
Choosing quick-disconnect (QD) cables allows for versatility in applications by enabling devices to be moved or replaced easily. Double-ended cordsets have QD connectors on both ends – one female and one male.
Using HighFlex20™ technology, Banner’s High Flex Cordsets dependably deliver signals for 20 million flex cycles in repetitive motion applications.
