Operator Indication on Conveyor Systems
A material handling equipment manufacturer sought a more reliable and durable solution for clear operator control and guidance. Operators had been using the same mechanical buttons for years. These push buttons did not clearly indicate status to nearby operators. The mechanical operation of the button complicated the installation process, wasting time in the manufacturing process, and was causing long-term reliability issues leading to equipment down-time, along with field-support calls. Operators wanted to replace the existing technology with lighted buttons that were easy to install, reliable, and would enable them to identify problems faster.
The equipment manufacturer installed K30 touch buttons along the conveyors. Each button ran along a particular section of the conveyor and were set to green. Green indicated that that section was working properly. If a section of the conveyor had a malfunction or issue, the corresponding light turned red. This enabled operators to quickly see the lights associated with the proper conveyor section and troubleshoot the issue. This simple solution helped operators identify the issue faster and determine the correct location of the problem.
Additionally, operators enjoyed the reliability of the light when the power went out at the facility. Instead of having to restart the lights, K30 touch buttons retained the last state of the device. The button would power up green unless the last state was red. This was a helpful feature that they did not have when using mechanical push buttons.
The K30 touch button was found to withstand significant impact; when someone would accidentally bump into it or hit it with an object, the light remained intact. Operators utilized the ability to add a delay to eliminate false trips.
