Challenge: Illumination for Enclosure Troubleshooting

Many oil and gas companies have electrical enclosures outside, near their oilfields and petrochemical refineries, that are critical to the operation. Lights that go inside of the enclosures require specific certifications and ratings so that they can work in a hazardous environment. In a recent oil and gas application, an oilfield supervisor was looking to install an overhead light within the enclosure. Maintenance commonly occurred at night and workers would need to bring a flashlight to identify issues. Most lighting options they found did not have built-in motion options and required a separate switch for manual operation.

The company installed the HLS28 LED light to troubleshoot breaker trips and other electrical failures and maintenance. Whenever someone opened the enclosure door, the light would automatically turn on due to its integrated motion switch. The motion sensor was already integrated into the light for ease of use and installation. This hands-free solution enabled workers to no longer bring their own light source to the oilfield. Moreover, the light was equipped with sturdy aluminum housing, shatterproof windows, and space-saving design, for use within enclosures in a hazardous environment.

Integrated Motion Sensor

The HLS28 LED Strip Light is available with an integrated motion sensor for auto-on when the enclosure door is opened or anytime motion is detected. When cascading lights, models with the motion switch can be used to control the lights cascaded off the switched model.

Certified for Hazardous Enclosures

It is triple certified, CULus, ATEX, and IECEx, for global use inside appropriately rated enclosures, such as Class 1 Div II hazardous environments. Automatic temperature protection is built into the unit above 50°C. The light dims to manage heat and protect product lifetime.

Single Color and Multicolor Models Available

The HLS28 features 9 standard bright white models and 3 multicolor models, available in lengths from 145 mm to 570 mm (6” to 2’). Single color white models have the capability to dim lights when using the wiring pinout (Hi/Lo/Off). Multicolor models can be used for status indication in addition to illumination.
