Challenge: Conveying Box Sealer Statuses for Operator Guidance

It is crucial for operators to quickly and easily determine machine statuses to ensure efficient processes throughout a factory. Any unexpected downtime is costly and reduces overall efficiency. In many factories, outdated indicators are used to differentiate a limited number of machine states. In a recent CPG application, operators were finding it difficult to identify issues on a box sealer and troubleshoot them appropriately. A solution was needed to better indicate a variety of complex statuses coming from the labeling machine.

Solution: Display Dynamic, Multicolor Indication

Technicians installed a QS18 in-line with the boxes and a CL50 Pro programmable column light above it on the box sealer. The highly visible CL50 Pro column light enabled better visual management by allowing operators to quickly check machine status. Using Pro Editor software, operators programmed the multicolor indicator to turn a specific color to match a specific machine status. That way, the light would turn different colors to indicate low throughput, jam detection, maintenance required, and machine shortage. They used an audible model to sound an alarm during high-alert states, such as machine down or maintenance critical. Installing the QS18 and CL50 column lights improved communication across the facility and reduced downtime by giving immediate attention to machine issues.
